Welcome
to The London CASC. Firstly we'd like to congratulate you on
getting to this point in your career. No doubt, much hard work, effort
and many late nights have got you to this point and now ahead lies one
of the last big hurdles, the infamous CASC exam.
For many, the exam is a daunting prospect,
multiple stations, each offering you only a few minutes to demonstrate
all your skills as a competent psychiatrist and with this years pass
rate being just 50% it's clear that this is a tough exam.
We have been providing CASC training courses for the last five years now and have run the course a total of 26 times, so you could say we've been around a while. We hope that if looking for a course
to help you, that after reading the information in this website, you'll
consider us as one of your choices, but first, take a few moments to read what our
organiser thinks below.
"THE COURSE ORGANISER"
"Courses
can be great in aiding candidates to get through the CASC exam. The
mock exam type courses I've seen around, give a real good feel of the
actual exam and for candidates who get good scores in these mocks it's a
real moral booster to know that they're on the right track.
However,
for those that do less well, it's critical that they get an in depth
discussion for the reasons why. Even more importantly, it's vital that
the feedback comes from someone who really understands the overall
strengths and weaknesses of each candidate. The mock style courses are
good at giving a mock exam, but due to the constraints of time and
numbers involved they can often struggle to offer detailed constructive
feedback.
Being
told that you passed a scenario is good, but being told why you passed
it or why you failed it, in detail, is where the real value lies, both
for the exam and your professional future. We believe that since we have
less time constraints and have regular experienced examiners, that we
are able to give really strong, honest and critical guidance to
candidates.
I
personally have been involved in teaching in both types of course for
many years now and each has it's strengths and weaknesses, for example,
for those on their first attempt, a mock style course may be useful as
an experience of the real thing. For those who have unfortunately sat
the exam several times, it really is time to get some solid in depth
feedback as to what the issues are and this is where we believe we offer
a clear advantage.
If
you are considering a course, I strongly advise, that before booking,
you see what others say about courses they have attended, check or
initiate forums, or simply call the course organisers and ask loads of
questions about how they think the course can meet your specific needs.
Whatever your final choice we at The London CASC wish you the best"
